In August 2008 at about 4am, after being out with a group of friends I set off walking back home. I don’t know what made me cross the road at the wrong time, but I crossed without looking and I was hit by a van. I am now completely paralysed and need two full time carers to do everything.
My accident didn’t only have an impact on me, it has had a massive impact on my family and also the driver. My hope is that by sharing the reality of what can happen if you don’t take care when crossing the road, it will in a small way help reduce the number of accidents on the roads.
“Lauren’s talk was fabulous and moving. I have never seen them sit and listen so intently. It really got us all thinking about being extra careful around roads and especially when crossing. Powerful stuff but pitched perfectly.”
Rachel Capstick, 23rd Harrogate (Hookstone) Beaver Scouts
“Lauren put the girls at ease answering all their questions, they were in awe of Lauren and listened intently. I have received many texts from parents, one saying “a valuable life lesson sensitively delivered” which I feel was so true. I can not recommend Lauren’s talk enough.”
Maggie Moore, 4th Tadcaster Brownies
“I was fortunate to be supported by Lauren presenting ‘Learn and Live’ to students 16+. The students listened avidly and were clearly positively engaged. I respect her openness to any questions and her determination to help prevent others going through what she has.”
Helen Richardson, North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service
“Lauren has delivered talks to the children in a school I have worked in. She is inspirational and engaging, and the children take so much away from the talks!”
